In your wildest dreams. That is the theme for this year’s much-awaited Dinner and Dance (or DnD in short). Weeks before the actual event, posters were put up all around hall, urging KEVIIans to let their imaginations run wild and their innermost dreams out. As a result, a good many turned up for the event dressed in the most outrageous costumes, and it was an interesting and wild night at Seletar Country Club indeed!
The evening’s programme began with the introduction of the people who have made this mega event possible – the DnD committee itself. Headed by Siew Yi, the committee was invited on stage to take a bow, amid appreciative rounds of applause from the audience.

After the acknowledgement of the committee, Jeevan, our emcee from last DnD back by popular demand, got the audience roused by involving them in a game. KEVIIans were invited on stage for a competition, in which the aim was for 2 people to lick at a peanut butter-covered transparency to reveal a secret message hidden within. The winners of this game were Eddie and Yong Shen, and they walked away with movie vouchers for prizes.

Next, the pageant and manhunt contestants were invited on stage to perform a dance. Cheers were heard throughout the performance, as members of the audience shouted encouragement to their block representatives. After months of preparing for this event, the contestants were at ease on stage, putting up a brilliant show.
After this, the contestants returned backstage to prepare for their next segment, while the first part of the night’s lucky draw kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Many attractive prizes, such as movie and Singapore Flyer vouchers, were given out. By this time, dinner had already been served to the hungry KEVIIans, and a break in the programme also allowed KEVIIans to walk around to mingle and take pictures.

The pageant and manhunt contest picked up the programme again after the break, with individual items put up by the representatives from each block. Impromptu skits were put up by blocks AB and E, block CD did a sprightly parapara dance, block F’s contestants entertained with a duet accompanied by guitar, and block GH’s couple did a romantic dance spanning the entire ballroom.

To keep spirits high, the audience was pranked once again to participate in another mini-game on stage. KEVIIans were asked to vote for the “Best Dressed” among themselves, and the (un)lucky chosens went on stage for the seaweed game. Those who attended last year’s DnD would remember this game fondly; a team of 4 were to stand in a row and pass 3 pieces of seaweed along from one end to the other, using nothing but their mouths. Naturally, the game was well-received by the audience, who cheered for their friends on stage. Those playing however, had a more awkward time, and moments where the seaweed fell and 2 KEVIIans’ lips almost met in a kiss were frequent. In the end, the team comprising of Jun Kok, Zi Chun, Moses and Sarah emerged victorious.

The last segment of the pageant and manhunt started with a catwalk put up by the contestants, followed by a Q&A session. The floor was also opened up for the audience to quiz the contestants, which Zi Chun literally did with his question to GH’s Rachel: “Can you explain the Maxwell equation to me?”.

After the fun of the Q&A session, the audience settled down for the relatively formal part of the night’s programme, the MAB prize presentation ceremony. Zhengyu took over as emcee, and the winners of the MAB awards were announced and invited on stage to receive their tokens. This year saw many winners from each category, acknowledged for their dedication and hard work from the start of the academic year till now.

The second half of the lucky draw was then held. The prizes this time were more attractive, ranging from hard drives to printers, fridges and the grand prize of a home theatre system.
The last event for the night was the prize presentation ceremony. Firstly, the pageant and manhunt contest was brought to a close with the announcement of the results. E block’s Peng Keong and F block’s Mae Yue won the title of Mr and Miss Personality respectively. The Mr and Miss Popular title went to F block’s Chun Keat and GH’s Rachel. Lastly, GH’s Jun Kiat won the manhunt to emerge as Master’s Macho Man, while E block’s Marie, an exhange student from France, was crowned Master’s Gorgeous Girl.

The audience was also awarded for their active participation in dressing up for the night. Grace, our JCRC’s Hon Gen Sec, won the award for Best Dressed with her Victorian-styled mini-dress, while the Best Dressed Table prize went to the Egyptians, complete with a KEVIIan mummified with toilet paper.

This marked the successful conclusion of this year’s DnD. The programme might have ended, but KEVIIans, full with dinner, were reluctant to leave, hanging around in the ballroom to take photos with each other until the buses came to ferry everyone back to hall. The night of wildest dreams will surely remain a fond memory of fun for every participating KEVIIan. Till next year!
