6th January 2008: It was a parade of red and yellow t-shirts in the netball court today. Our netball team was up against Eusoff for their first preliminary netball match. The weather was perfect, a sunny and bright day for a netball game.

Our netball team with Ann Ni as the Centre guard (C) had control of the ball for the 1st quarter. Our players were in constant defense mode with Eusoff’s never-ending attacks. Goal Keeper (GK), Yu Kit, tried her best to block the continuous shots but despite her efforts, the 1st quarter ended with Eusoff in the lead, 10-0.

During the 2nd quarter, our team hit back with full force by introducing new, energetic and high-stamina players but in vain. Eusoff extended their lead to 20-0 by half-time.

The 3rd quarter was an exhausting match with the ball sailing back and forth in the court. Our netball team was not going down without a fight. They showed Eusoff their agility and skill when Hui Ann (GK) and Kimberley, the Goal Defense (GD) intercepted the ball many times from the opposing team, preventing them from scoring more goals. Our team employed a great defense strategy in this match with Eusoff scoring only 3 goals instead of 10.

For the final quarter, our netball team adopted a more offensive approach. Although Eusoff managed to score 14 points in this match, our team never showed any signs of admitting defeat. This perseverance paid off with a goal by Goal Shooter (GS), Hiromi, not long after Eusoff’s final goal and a brilliant pass from Shu Hui to Hiromi who executed another magnificent goal. The two goals were accompanied by ecstatic cheers by our other netball players both in the court and on the sidelines.

Although our netball team put in their best effort, we proved to be no match for the more experienced Eusoffians. The final score was 37-2. However, our team was nevertheless admirable. The never-give-up spirit was always existent in each of the players and that determination rewarded them with the two last-minute goals in the end. All hope to obtain the gold award for netball is not lost though.

Still to come is another preliminary match against Sheares Hall on Tuesday, 6pm at the SRC. All the best to our KEVII Netball team for this match (we will all be rooting for you). And to all KEVIIans who have time to spare, come down to support your netball, basketball, softball, and sepak takraw teams playing in the next few days.
