BasketBall Male Prelims: KE vs KR

Pubz Comm Reporter: Grace Chan

————————————

4th January 2008: As the whistle was blown, the jump ball was thrown in the air and the Kent Ridge (KR) Hall team managed to gain possession of it. In the 1st quarter, our team started off quite strongly. One exciting moment was when Hendrik made an offensive rebound and his move was eventually converted to a shot by Zhang Yang. This quarter ended with KR leading with 7-13.

In the 2nd quarter, our team knew we had a fighting chance against KR. Hendrik again managed to snatch the rebound from KR twice and both times Luo Cheng shot the ball into the hoop. However, KR did better and the 2nd quarter ended with KR leading with the score 9-25.

One would have thought our KE7 Basketball team would be demoralized as we were losing but our guys never felt that way. We managed to chalk up 13 points to end the 3rd quarter with a score of 22-31.

The last quarter was a heart-stopping one as our guys continued to attack KR with more shots. Their efforts were not futile as the shots went into the basket. With KE7 supporters rallying them on and their confidence building up, our team actually managed to level the score with KR! Alas, KR put up a fight as well and they won the match with the score 39-42.

Although we lost, our team put up a gallant fight and they never lost hope although they were falling behind. Kudos to our male Basketball team! All the best to them in their 2nd preliminary match!

BasketBall Female Prelims: KE vs KR

Pubz Comm Reporter: Grace Chan

—————————–

Our girls had their first preliminary match against the Kent Ridge (KR) basketball team last Thursday 4th at 6pm. The match started off with KR having possession of the jump ball. In the 1st quarter, our girls played well with the score 3-6. Although KR was leading at the end of the 1st quarter, our girls knew they could easily catch up.

In the 2nd quarter, there were a few nerve-wrecking moments when our girls stole the ball from KR and did a fast break and tried to do a lay-up. Although we managed to chalk up some points, KR managed to score 18 points in the 2nd quarter, leading to a 7-18 score.

In the 3rd quarter, KR committed a foul and our girls were awarded with 3 free throws. However, we failed to convert the free throws. Our girls even tried to do a 3-pointer. Nevertheless, the 3rd quarter ended with the score 11-29, with KR leading.

A few interesting moments in the last quarter was when Hui Ying single-handedly dribbled the ball all the way from one end of the court to the other and Fang Chee holding on to the ball for dear life as the KR girl tried to snatch the ball away from her. Our girls had the supporters cheering loudly as Hui Ann gained possession of the ball and made a pass to Geraldine. Geraldine then passed it back to Hui Ann and she tried to shoot but her efforts were futile as KR blocked her shot. The match ended with KR winning the match at 11-35.

Due to lack of manpower, our girls were down with fatigue. This was noticeable in the last quarter as we did not score any points at all. Nevertheless, we have to commend our girls for their sportsmanship and their never-say-die attitude. Hats off to our Basketball girls and all the best for their second preliminary match this coming Monday!
