After the defeat by Raffles Hall, our female handball team was even more adamant to put up an even more vicious battle against Temasek Hall. We did not have a battle cry, but Cheng Ying held onto the KE flag, waving it high up in the air, with the hope to boost our team morale. Unlike Temasek, we did not have Inter Varsity Players (IVP). What we had was a team of highly motivated players and devoted supporters. Our Sports Secretary, Jamil also came down to encourage our players.
The first half kicked off after the referee blew the whistle. Unlike Raffles, Temasek made passes less steadily, but they played more forcefully. They had several strong players, including an IVP. Their left handed right wing was especially strong. She scored many sharp angled goals from the right. Nevertheless, our defense was much stronger this time. Annisa managed to put off many scoring attempts. Her saves were executed very well and bravely. There was once when June put herself in front of a charging opponent who was attempting an attack and they both stumbled onto the ground. Everyone was furious when the referee made her sit out for 2 minutes. Temasek scored 17 goals in the first half of the game.
During the second half, the team could not afford to lose their concentration. Temasek was also getting desperate to score more goals, to keep the winning margin higher. They were eager to intercept our passing, creating as many chances to score as possible. Our team made some attempts to score, but were thwarted off by the Temasek girls. However, our chance finally came when our girl passed the ball to Foong Yen on the left. Without a thought, Foong Yen threw the ball as hard as she could from the side and We Scored Our First Goal!! Temasek girls were baffled while the Red Titans erupted in a thunderous cheer. The game ended when Temasek scored their 27th goal.
”Oh my god. I don’t know eh” was the response given by Foon Yen when asked about the first goal scored by KE female handball team.
