Deadly Sinful: CD block supper

Written by Colin Ng

As Semester 1 comes to a close and everyone enters ‘mugging’ mode, the CD block committee put together the last CD supper for its residents this semester. The theme was the 7 Deadly Sins – Wrath, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy, Gluttony and Greed – which the CD block committee creatively incorporated into the food names. There were the Wrathful Spicy Chicken, Coldsloth (coleslaw), Pride Bee Hoon (fried bee hoon), Lust Supper Item (last supper item – Milo), Envious Green Tang Yuan and Glutton Cream Puffs.

Before everyone tucked into the sinful supper, a game of “Chubby Bunny” was played. In this game, contestants were required to put marshmallows into their mouths and say “Chubby Bunny”. The twist was that participants were not allowed to bite or swallow the marshmallows. After a brief explanation of the rules, nominations began and the 4 contestants were Yao Lin, Jonathan, April and Alex.

The game began and the first 4 rounds went by like a breeze. Things started getting tricky in Round 5: Yao Lin was unable to say “Chubby Bunny” with 5 marshmallows in her mouth and was thus the first to be eliminated. The other 3 contestants progressed through the game, finding it increasingly difficult: April caved at round 10, while Jonathan broke at 11. Alex was then crowned the winner of “Chubby Bunny”! His limit was tested and it stood at 11 marshmallows as he could not overcome 12.

After the game, the CD block committee surprised Yao Lin and Jonathan with a birthday cake. Like all birthday boys and girls, they were not let off easily. Yao Lin and Jonathan had to share one Envious Green Tang Yuan, each biting half of it: Yao Lin was so excited she bit more than half of it on the first try! Clearly, the Tang Yuan was too enticing. Both of them then gave it another shot and it was a success. Next up was the singing of the birthday song, but with a twist: Yao Lin and Jonathan had to blow out the candles – from a distance. Both of them were huffing and puffing but the flame did not even flicker. Jonathan then attempted to use his hands to channel his breath but the stubborn flame only flickered. After a few more attempts, Jonathan was able to extinguish one of three candles. Yao Lin also gave it a go but the flame only danced around, almost as if it was taunting them. A joint effort ensued and with some coordination, the 2 lit candles were eventually extinguished.

By this time, everyone was eager to tuck into the sinful supper, and sin they did. The CD block committee helped to dish out the food and everyone began to eat. The food looked extremely inviting and one blocker commented that the cream puffs were excellent.

This may be the last CD supper for the semester, but there would definitely be more in the semesters to come. Good job to the CD block committee for making the last supper anything less than spectacular!
