You always know something good is going to happen that night whenever Winnie unlocks the metal cabinet in CD Kitchenette and drags out the plastic box inside.
Preparation for first CD Supper started all the way since 5pm and they had a lot to cook. Old favourites were back – soon-to-be-really-famous deep fried golden nuggets and Jordan-could-make-it-big fruit salad; with new tasty menu – steam/fried-to-your-fickle-taste Siew Mais and simple-but-awesome chicken skewers! Mmmm… who wouldn’t want to land a bite on these delectable sins?
As the night grew darker, the kitchenette became bright with yellow and laughter as the block committee members created their masterpieces with any means necessary. It was really uplifting to watch freshmen immersing themselves happily in one of the best parts of hall culture. =)
Silence was broken at 9.30pm when Yan Shi’s first screech broke the blockers’ concentration in their rooms. “CD BLOCK SUPPER!!” “CD BLOCK SUPPER~” As the heads popped out of their rooms, the lounge got cosier by the minute.
The first supper is the most important supper for all blocks because it is when the blockers find out who their lovely block head is and who will be taking care of the welfare during their stay in hall.
Prof Chong, CD’s well respected Resident Fellow, started the supper with advice for the freshmen: “Join the activities we have in Hall, otherwise there is no difference from living in a residence… However, do not over-commit. Your grades are still the most important, so learn to balance school life and hall life”. Prof Chong could not have phrased it any better. It would manage the expectation and commitment of the freshmen. With that, Winnie ushered the blockers into a new year in CD and began the feast! Food depleted at a high rate and the block committee members could not be happier. Inter block games (IBG) was happening at the same time on the floor. Looking at how things are progressing, I am sure the spirit of CD will be a force to be reckoned with in IBG.
Perhaps it was the good food or just the atmosphere in the lounge, everyone was very comfortable chatting with one another. The evening was very casual and seniors were happily sharing their experience in CD with the freshmen. Cool and Dazzling Supper was a great success and kudos to the block committee for putting in the effort! CD blockers can definitely expect more of these suppers to mingle and take a break.
