What do you think of it?
The XQRJ Roadshow, featuring 12 finalists in the competition, was held on 10/1/2009 (Saturday) at the Youth *Scape Park in Somerset. The road show had drawn an encouraging crowd.

All the XQ Finalists put up a good show to win loud applause from the audience. Songs presented ranged from pop songs by popular contemporary artistes to songs composed by the finalists themselves.

During Intermission, games were played to encourage participation from the audience. Lucky draw prizes were also given out to the participating audience.

1. How do you feel after receiving the NUS Student Achievement award on behalf of XQRJ?
I feel proud of XQRJ, not only X10 but the many generations up till now as well. I’m privileged to be the representative to receive this award, but the recognition goes out to all XQRJians. In short, there were mixed feelings of nostalgia, satisfaction and pride!
2. What were the ’secrets’ that made 10th XQRJ so successful?
One open secret would be the generous assistance from our ‘laorens’ (ex-XQRJ members) and various hall residents. I’ve expressed my gratitude to them many times and still, thank you to you all! =)
Of course, not forgetting my X10 members, who strived and persevered on despite the multiple strains. There were many times when they broke down in stress, faced disappointment due to high expectations and the thought of ‘giving up’ flashed through their minds, but they chose to encourage one another instead.
The teamwork, the criticism, the vision, the sacrifice and the support make them strong and different.
3. Choose one adjective that best describes your committee.
Dedicated.
4. Tell us about the most special / craziest / meaningful / memorable thing that you all did as a committee.
During the early phase of our publicity, we wore our green XQRJ shirts and toured around the whole campus to publicise our event. We gave out brochures along the way and carried an enlarged version of our posters along. We attracted a lot of curious stares, and even those on the buses were not spared. Actually, it was initially dismissed as a crazy idea and luckily, we decided to be ‘crazy’ together.
Other memorable activities include our banner painting, photo-taking, overseas trip and working through the night in X room, lying on the ancient mattress.
5. Any words of wisdom for the current batch of XQRJ committee?
Cherish the times in XQRJ working as a team together and don’t be shy to try new stuff! Challenge yourself with new ideas and the ‘laorens’ will always be around to provide support! 心情溶剂加油!
6. On a more personal note, why did you join XQRJ?
I joined XQRJ for 2 years, 9th and 10th XQRJ.
For the first year when I signed up, frankly speaking, I did not even know what XQRJ was! I remembered during the CCA fair, the XQRJ laorens were very enthusiastic and although nobody approached me personally (probably I looked too quiet and reserved..), I knew this would be a fun committee and put it as my first choice.
As for the second year, the reason was very simple. I had grown attached to the XQRJ family and as part of this family, I wanted to contribute more and witness the further growth of XQRJ. Sounds quite emotional ya?
7. As a KEVIIan, what were your best memories in hall?
The multiple suppers and ‘talk-cock’ sessions! All the activities I joined in hall allowed me to get to know interesting people and they never failed to share with me knowledge that I didn’t have before. Sometimes I might have felt guilty and thought that I should have spent the time studying, but seriously, after shifting out of hall, my night life has become so quiet and boring. Haha. I really miss the laughters, birthday celebrations and sabo at 12 midnight.
I will also treasure the intensive working days in XQRJ, KEWOC, GH block committee and Float, where I lost track of the difference between day and night. :p
8. Any other things you would like to say to fellow KEVIIans?
Keep up the vibrancy of hall life! Jiayou everyone!
9. Interviewee’s own addition: Words to my X10 members
Not sure if you all still remember these 4 words: 斗志, 泪水, 激情, 欢笑。
You let me experience all these precious emotions and it has been great working with all of you! =)

The ‘steamboat night’ for Xing Qing Rong Ji (XQRJ) was held on 27/10/08. As an annual event, it was an opportunity for building closer rapport among the committee members. The night started with everyone busily but happily involved in preparing the food. Though the event went through the same routine every year, there were different sentimental values that could be cherished each year. It was a simple but fun-filled and enjoyable night, with all of us getting together, chit-chatting and gossiping and laughing all the way. Even the cleaning up job, when carried out by all of us together, did not seem to be tedious at all …

Congratulations to the 10th Xin Qing Rong Ji (XQRJ) Organising Committee and the Rag & Flag Committee 2007 for receiving the awards! You certainly have done the Hall proud!
The NUS Student Achievement Awards Ceremony 2008 was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Towers. XQRJ, having successfully organised its annual Chinese song writing competition, received the Group Award for the Arts and Culture Category, while the Rag & Flag Committee received the Group Award for the Community Service Category for their outstanding performance during Rag & Flag 2007. Both committees really did awesome jobs and were well deserving of their awards!
During the awards ceremony, the XQRJ committee members were also invited on stage to present their theme song. “追踪阳光的希望,音乐为我呼唤。哪怕世事变幻无常,音乐是我心情溶剂……” As they sang harmoniously in unison, their enthusiasm and strong bonding as a committee were evident. Perhaps those were the greatest secrets that enabled their unprecedented success?
Great food specially prepared by the chefs of this five-star hotel was also in store for the award winners. Salad, lamb chop, gravy chicken, spaghetti and sashimi formed part of the menu, with many more appetite-whetting desserts waiting in store for second helpings. The best part of everything was probably the fact that dinner was served buffet-style, meaning it was “eat-all-you-can”!
The event ended at around 9.30pm, but most people were not prepared to leave just as yet. Precious memories were yet to be captured in the form of photos, so groups of people started gathering and flashbulbs of cameras started going off incessantly.
Once again, congratulations to the 10th XQRJ and Rag & Flag 2007 committees!
KE Press would like to take this opportunity to thank Kuan Siang -the 52nd JCRC’s Publications Secretary – for giving us the privilege to cover this event. Thank You Kuan Siang!

HALL PLAY: Till we have Faces
10th Xing Qing Rong Ji
December holidays is said to be the time when XQRJ committee members work the hardest. To find out what these guys are up to for the 10th edition of Xin Qing Rong Ji, we met up with Koh Yueting, this year’s XQRJ head.

XQRJ is one of the largest National Chinese Song Writing Competition organized specially for Singaporean and Malaysian students. Our grand final, which will be held in NUS UCC this year, will compose of live band performances by the finalists and our guest artiste.
I took quite some time to consider about it actually. But I knew it will be a totally new experience leading a fresh batch of people and until now, I have not regretted once. Even though the X-room is always filled with laughter, X10 members still manage to get things done on time nicely. I’m also very glad that they feel a sense of attachment to this committee, even proposing to wear XQRJ shirt on every Monday. I enjoy myself working with all of them.
Yup! We went on a 3 days trip to Genting, KL and Malacca. A number of us went to these places before but with a different bunch of people, we get different and new memories. It was a budget trip but we managed to cover many renowned places of the cities and most importantly, tasted their mouth-watery dishes. It was a worthwhile trip. We discovered more things and secrets, and we learnt to look out for one another.
Currently, we are preparing for our preliminary round, which will be held on 22nd Dec 07, and simultaneously carrying out publicity at a 9-day carnival. A lot of publicity booths and roadshows will be on the way as we start selling tickets and the team begins planning for the Grand Final on 3rd Feb 08. Many activities will be ongoing at the same time but I believe my team can handle multi-tasking very well =).
As everyone is saying, this year is the 10th XQRJ!! What we wish to achieve is to improve and expand it such that XQRJ can sustain for another 10 years and more. For example, the rebranding of XQRJ, setting up an online submission system and extending the submission to students in Malaysia. Of course we will not forget to celebrate our 10 years of successful journey while we bring to you interesting shows other than the live-band singing.
Yes, a lot of people have been saying XQRJ is taxing and crazy, haha. However many examples have shown it is possible to cope with other CCAs and XQRJ. I guess it all boils down to how they manage their time and plan ahead to join only those CCAs that they are able to commit and contribute to.
Don’t feel so sad that you have to stay in hall during the vacation! No matter what you are working hard for, be it XQRJ, Hallplay or the sports, you will soon realize your efforts are worth it. It is only during university hall life that you can try out and be involved in these exciting events! Best of luck for all KEVIIans!

Well well, isn’t it exciting that so much is happening in hall even during school vacation? Do drop by this coming Friday to find out how things are going on the Sports side!
Calling all KEVIIans, and non-KEVIIans too!
To make our job of reporting a little more interactive, Pubs Comm would like you to send us your comments on the finals of XQRJ (Xin Qing Rong Ji), the nationwide Chinese songwriting competition, which took the form of a concert held on 27 Jan 2006. It received much praise for being a well-organised event, with high-quality songs that held the audience spellbound, humorous interludes as the judges took turns to give comments and constructive criticism on each song, and music videos which were… memorable, to say the least
The 10 songs which made it to finals – all of which received acclaim, whether in the form of a prize or simply in the hearts of the people who went to see it, were “Xin Zhong De Ri Ji” (The Diary In My Heart), “Ya Yi Ya”, “Yu Ye” (Rainy Night), “Fang Shou” (Letting Go), “I Do”, “Wei Xiao” (Smile), “Shen Jing Bing” (Crazy), “Zui Hou De Gao Bai” (The Last Goodbye), “Tu Ran Xiang Qi” (Suddenly I Remember), and “Deng Yi Ge Qi Ji” (Waiting For A Miracle). Well done to the songwriters and performers who were able to see their artistic creations realised on stage!
Send your comments – reviews of the songs, comments or feedback for the 9th XQRJ team – to ke7publications @ gmail.com (remove the spaces). We are eager to hear from you! You will receive no reward but the satisfaction of being able to air your views and perhaps see them in print in the hall newsletter, “Altitude”, or even in the yearbook. We hope to incorporate as many of your views as possible!
Whether it is to gush about the deep meaning in your favourite song, to give an artistic critique of the different songwriting techniques, to praise the XQRJ team for doing a great job this year, to comment on whether it was a right choice to screen the music videos, to provide translations or even give a non-Chinese-speaker’s point of view, we look forward to hearing from you!
Note: Pubs Comm also welcomes your views on other events in hall, including IHG and Hall Play. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. So are your tip-offs on other news in hall!
