Men’s Squash Prelims: KE vs TH

KE 5-0 TH

Today’s squash preliminary against Temasek Hall (TH) was largely a one-sided affair.

In the first match, Raymond played Fang Hong from TH who had strokes as forceful as Raymond’s. Still, Raymond played a consistent game and made use of some very tight angles to give his opponent a hard time. Fang Hong had no answer to Raymond’s prowess and KE swept the match in straight sets without dropping a point; 9-0, 9-0.

Next up was Christopher from KE against Sharan from TH. Chris was obviously the better player and treated the crowd to a stunning exhibition of drop shots as he demolished his opponent 9-0, 9-1. In the 3rd match, Kwan Rong played James from TH. There were some long rallies during the match but not once did Kwan Rong get too eager and try to kill the point- he waited each rally out patiently. Though he got off to a slow start, Kwan Rong’s steady game plan paid off nicely as he won the match 9-2, 9-0.

The 4th match was indeed a spectacular display of squash finesse. Our team captain Sean was up against the equally experienced Adam from Temasek Hall. From the moment the match started every point was contested passionately with both players making very few unforced errors. Sean had an amazing knack for saving every single tough shot from his opponent and I am not exaggerating when I say he was everywhere. Despite Sean’s outstanding skill and stamina, Adam put up a commendable performance and gave Sean a run for his money. There was a particular rally of alternate drop shots and lobs which kept both players running helter-skelter throughout the point– every time you thought the point was about to end, it didn’t! Throughout the match both men made some stunning shots and the spectators were kept at the edge of their seats. KEVIIan captain Sean kept an edge on his opponent and did KE proud by winning 9-0, 9-1. This was by far the most compelling match of the night (and perhaps of the season thus far) but alas the score line did not reflect the intensity and remarkable squash skill shown by both players.

In the final match, Dennis from KE played Ivan and won without much ado 9-0, 9-0. Dennis’ opponent was evidently outclassed and this made it an easy win for KE. Dennis’ lackadaisical style of play and array of trick shots provided much entertainment for the supporters (as always).

All-in-all it was a fantastic night for KE 7 squash. Having topped our group (after beating EH 3-2 and TH 5-0) we will go into the semi-finals with our best foot forward. Stay tuned for more updates.
