Newsflash: Second and Third Gold!

KE7 won both Soccer and Squash finals today! Both were played against KR.

Soccer at 5 pm was an explosive affair between two skilled teams which had met before in prelims (on that occasion we had drawn 1-1) which resulted in some spectacular play, dramatic injuries on both sides, and a 4-0 victory for KE.

Squash at 9 pm saw fine performances from Raymond, Chris and Jeremy, who won the first three matches 3-0, sealing Squash gold for KE as well.

Congratulations SOCCER GUYS and SQUASH GUYS! Great job indeed! This brings KE’s gold medal tally for this IHG to a total of 3 - “the best haul for years”, as a senior put it :P Thanks too to all supporters who have been coming down to support - your role has not been a small one!

Expect to see the detailed reports soon!

we should have a big party (sponsored by hall) for the achievements of all our athletes. a big party with food and drinks and entertainment(and i dont mean fhd!)

    how about it jcrc

btw please also update the ranking table and photo gallery!

  2. 2 Terence February 14, 2007 at 1:40 am

Good Idea… I’ll run it by Master cos the JCRC Budget is already burst… haha

look at ihg scoreboard at http://www.temasek.nus.edu.sg/

our guys team just 1 point behind sheares with road relay to come. go for it!!!

look at this excerpt from KR report (http://www2.kentridge.nus.edu.sg/blogs/sample_weblog/archive/2007/02/14/soccer-m-finals-tuesday-13-feb-2007-kr-v-ke7.aspx)

“…Despite the rousing support from its supporters, KR’s fighting spirit was not enough to overcome the dominant King Edward VII (KEVII) Hall players, who depended largely on the size and speed of their three ‘foreign talents’ to pull them through…”

i think its an extremely unfair comment. i am a singaporean but im very proud of the diversity and teamwork in our soccer team and i would say that every one played an integral part on the road to victory.

of course. dont worry their article only reflects the views of their reporter. so yah :)

  6. 6 YuanYan February 14, 2007 at 11:37 pm

    to king:

sheares played against raffles hall in the handball final at eight pm today. raffles beat them 19-18. so now on total sheares has 5 points more than us. we can only be on par with them if we win road relay gold, and they got last.

    is it?
    then lets do that!

  8. 8 viwa February 15, 2007 at 1:34 am

Aiya… the excerpt from the kr’s report reflects nothing but the lack of sportsmanship which was on dramatic display during the soccer finals itself. So it comes as no surprise. However it is rather unfair esp when we won (trashed them actually) the game fair and square. These ppl shld learn to lose gracefully instead of putting us down to make themselves feel better. Bad case of insecurity if you ask me.

  9. 9 arthur February 15, 2007 at 12:42 pm

never mind them… maybe they can’t accept the fact that we beat them… let alone thrashing them.. just be happy that we won.. and teach them to be gracious in times of defeat.. =) wooohoooo… KE rocks… all the best for today’s road relay. ^.^

3 foreign talents? Are you kidding? 2/3 the team are precious foreign talents.

    Hi,

I wrote the article for the match and I have the following to say from a journalist’s point of view:

    1. In response to “king”: Yes, I do not and I did not deny that all your players worked together because it is a team game.

(Just because I did not state it, does not mean it is not there ah? Unless, of course, you feel the need to over-compensate…)

But my query then was: would KEVII have achieved the same result without the three exchange students?

Please accord me the respect and journalistic integrity to bring this up, as I have accorded the self-same respect to you in explaining my point of view.

    2. In response to “Denyse”: Of course. All reporters write stories from a certain angle, and I had an angle to write my story from as a reporter for KRH. Which leads me to point 3…

    3. In response to “viwa”: Although I had a heavy KRH-biased slant to my story, please note that I DID NOT put KEVII down in any way.

The only thing I did not do was to NOT discuss KEVII’s play in as much detail as KRH’s play.

(Which, as I have mentioned, just because I did not state it, does not mean it is not there. Unless, of course, you feel the need to over-compensate again…)

IMHO, not talking about KEVII was the correct thing to do: do you think KRH residents reaaaallly wanted to read about KEVII or about KRH?

Please think on cause. Because if they wanted to do so, they could always come to this blog, no?

    4. In response to “arthur”:

Er sorry, the immaturity of your comment really does not validate a response from me :)

All in all, you all have brought up very good points and I hope I have managed to explain my point of view.

But in future, I hope everyone can please read things carefully before making comments which blatantly display a thorough lack of proper thinking through.

    Thanks! :)

  15. 15 Musa March 3, 2007 at 6:43 pm

I commend that fact that you came on and gave us and tried to give us some clarification on your article. But again, you made a false assumption that we had 3 Exchange Students playing in our team. I do not know where you got this info from but that is completely wrong. Lemme demonstrate.

    Keeper - Mauritian/Full Time Undergrad
RB - Singaporean/Full Time Undergrad and Our JCRC President
    CB - German Exchange Student
    CB - Chinese/Full Time Undergrad
LB - Mauritian/Full Time Undergrad and Our Captain
    RM - Chinese/Full Time Undergrad
    CM - Mauritian/Full Time Undergrad
    CM - Singaporean/Full Time Undergrad
    LM - Chinese/Full Time Undergrad
    CF - Singaporean/Full Time Undergrad
    CF - Kenyan/Full Time Undergrad

So you see, we had a grand total of 1 Exchange Student, albeit a damn good one, in our first eleven that took the field in the final and to further enlighten you, our subs which also included me, had 1 more German Exchange Student and he only subbed in after the game was beyond KR.

This is why your article caused such peeve among us KEVIIans. Im in my the first year here and i could see from the faces of my seniors that how much this victory meant for them. So to try and put this achievment down 3 Nonexistent Exchange student is quite disheartening. We won more through our team work and spirit than “Foriegn Talents”

So yeah in future, I hope everyone can please get thier facts straight before writing articles which blatantly display a thorough lack of proper research.

    Thanks =)

    Musa
    Sri Lankan/Full Time Undergrad

PS: Everyone has a right to thier opinion so dont try to put them down, might as well not respond to the comment =)
