Final Scores
Squash (F) - KE7 vs RH - 3 : 2
Squash (M) - KE7 vs KR - 4 : 1
On Thursday night, the sound of deafening cheering from KE’s squash courts could be heard all the way from level 8 of E block! (It sounded almost as if a rock concert was being held in a very small space.) With the unexpected closure of the SRC courts, the IHG squash matches have been played in our KE courts. And KE supporters who turned up to cheer at our first prelims were rewarded by the sight of our squash girls and guys doing KE proud by winning both our matches!

Our girls won! In the squash prelim on 1st Feb, KE squash girls beat their rivals from Raffles Hall.
The match started around 7.15pm at KE squash court due to the closure of SRC squash courts. During the match, it was crowded as the space was very limited, nevertheless the atmosphere there was easy and friendly. Denis, who introduced himself as the girls’ captain, looked very confident for his girls; that impressed me a lot because his confidence seemed to betoken the victory.
The captains submitted the play order list. Carolyn, who plays for NUS team, was the first player representing KE. After observing the warm-up, I could say that the execution of Carolyn’s every serve stressed the Raffles team. Indeed, she beat her opponent easily in less than 15 minutes as the disparity between them was really wide. Carolyn impressed me a lot by being so friendly to her opponent, offering more warm-up chance to the girl from RH and smiling and encouraging her all the time. That was a perfect squash round, not just in technique but in the way it reflected the spirit of IHG.
We lost in the second round. But still I must say that Jolene Ho did a good job. As the play order was randomly decided, Jolene met with the best player in the Raffles team. Nevertheless, I did not see any fear, not even nervousness, in Jolene’s eyes. She confronted it and played the game without hurry or bustle. In other words, she took the challenge leisurely.
Irene’s and Jennifer’s excellent shows lead the whole team to victory. Strictly speaking, they and the players from RH were well - matched in strength. However, Irene and Jennifer played calmly and their skillful serves flustered the rivals. The third and fourth rounds excited all the supporters and the cheers arose to the roof of the KE squash courts!
In the last round, we fielded our fifth player – Liujun. Though we’d already won three rounds, the pretty girl took her round seriously and patiently. I had to admit that this time our rival was quite skillful. The last round lasted the longest duration. After a hard battle, Liujun lost her game. However, everybody could see that she had tried her best and the match ended with her sweet smile.
It was my honor to report on this match and it was truly a fabulous “peaceful war”. What I could see from the squash match was that squash was not only about victory, but also about the precious friendship between RH and KE. All the best for KE squash team. You guys are going to do better in the coming matches!

| Raymond | 9-0, 9-0 (won 2-0) |
| Wenyang | 1-9, 0-9 (lost 0-2) |

Guys’ squash was very, very exciting!
In the beginning, it looked like it would be tough to win our 1st match. Our player and KR’s player kept exchanging turning service since they were well-matched in strength. However, our player was quite steady and clung to every opportunity to gain an advantage. He grabbed every chance he could to get points back. Finally, after a relatively long game, we won the match at 9-0, 9-3.
Our 2nd player was Raymond, the captain of the guys’ squash team. His playing style was rapid, and his eagerness to win the match was apparent in his serious demeanour. The opponent from KR was apparently not used to his way of playing, and lost some points under the pressure from Raymond. At last, Raymond won the game at 9-0, 9-0.
3rd up was Wenyang to combat KR’s player. Although Wenyang is a softball player, he gave a spirited performance, concentrating seriously on his game. In spite of his great efforts, he lost 1-9, 0-9. However, he exemplified the “Never Give Up” spirit of KE Hall, running all over the court to fight for the squash team and for KE7! In a moving display of hall spirit, every KE supporter was cheering for him!
During the 4th match Denis was hit by his opponent’s racquet. But he kept playing and finally won 9-2 and 9-0. Denis is well-known for his excellent squash skills. As expected, he took the match quite easy and played the game as if it was a training match. Denis took it all the way and won the game. All our KEVIIans were shouting for him, as well as admiring his squash skills!
KE had already won the match, at 3-1, before the 5th game started. However, many people remained to watch the last game. Our player was very patient, and he put up a nice fight for the squash team, resulting in a good round-up to the day’s achievements, winning 9-5 and 10-8. It was a tough game but he came through finally and won! The matches ended in celebration for all KEVIIans, who were excited and happy for our squash team.
Our squash guys are great!
