5th Jan: Good Try! - Girls’ Basketball
Girls’ basketball: KE vs SH
5th January had finally arrived. The KE7 girls’ basketball match against Sheares was the girls last chance to show the world what they were made of. For this match, the venue was at Eusoff Hall at 7.30 p.m.
At the sound of the whistle, the ball was thrown into the air by the referee. Sheares had the ball! As the game progressed, Sheares was the first to score. By the 1st timeout, Sheares was leading by 9-0. The girls tried to fight back but unfortunately our shots missed the basket. When the 1st quarter ended, Sheares’ lead had stretched to 14-0.
During the 2nd quarter, the KE7 girls tried to pressure Sheares. Eunice made a very good try as there was a loophole in Sheares defence. However, the ball just could not find its way to the basket. Our 1st point was from Nicole’s free throw. When the 2nd quarter ended, the score was 24-1 in Sheares’ favour.
The girls knew that if they wanted to win this match, they had to catch up with the Sheares girls in this quarter. All of a sudden, it started to drizzle. However, that certainly did not dampen the girls spirits. Cheers were heard in the KE7 camp when Nicole shot a 4-pointer… the girls might just win this game! The result for the 3rd quarter was 40-11 with Sheares still leading.
By the 4th quarter, it was raining more heavily. The girls played their heart out. They defended well, made good passes and tried to shoot. Alas, the game ended with everybody present there soaked with rain and Sheares winning with the score 49-15.
It is no doubt that the girls were disappointed with the outcome of the match. Nevertheless, as a team, they played much better compared to their previous match against Eusoff and they should be proud of that. They truly embodied the spirit of sportsmanship and, more importantly, of KE7!
Don’t let the never-give-up attitude fade away!
